She was plotting murder until God overcame a communication problem in a chat room to reach her. She committed her life to Christ instead of killing the person who offended her. | |

Chat Room MinistryChat Room Ministry: TestimoniesFrom Plotting Murder to Trusting GodI spoke with a lady one night who was in a situation in which she and her child were in danger. I was using the nickname "Nurice" and I will call her "Kay." She assured me she was a Christian, and we prayed together for protection. Over the next couple of nights, she assured me that she had peace that God would work things out. For a few nights I didn't see her, then one night she spoke with me again. Her tone was entirely different. She was plotting to kill the person she felt was a threat to them. "Where is God when I need him?" she asked. "I trusted him. Look where it got me. I am going to take care of it, if I have to do it myself." I share the log files here in order to demonstrate an amazing situation in which Kay saw this whole conversation out of sequence. I almost left the conversation at one point. Yet God still was able to intervene and take the witness and touch her heart. I will explain more of what happened at the end of the conversation. I began to talk with her: <Nurice> God says Kay
Kay didn't respond. I began to pray. <Nurice> Jesus,
I continued to pray, and then I asked Kay if she would ask God to help her. Here is the log of that conversation from my perspective. (You'll see later that Kay was getting a different sequence.) I've edited it slightly to take out anything that might identify Kay: * Kay cries
[long pause] <Nurice> Will you turn away from Satan's lies and turn back to Jesus...the only one who has given you any kind of comfort or peace in this? [no response] <Nurice> won't you just let go and quit fighting and let God love you and hold you?
[another pause] <Nurice> Kay do you want help?
[long pause] <Nurice> You want me to bow out then? [another pause] <Kay> yes
At this point I realized that we were experiencing what is known as "lag." This is a situation where servers get so congested that instead of receiving an instant response, it is sometimes over a minute before you get a response back from the person you are talking to. What this meant was that Kay was getting my efforts at communication totally out of order with her responses. One is reminded of the tower of Babel where God confounded language, or the second chapter of Acts (Acts 2:6) when God enabled the disciples to speak in other tongues so that each heard them sharing the Gospel in his native language. God was able to use even a our confounded communication to turn her heart from plotting murder to crying out to him for help! In spite of the lag, I was able to open up a different type of conversation with Kay, known as DCC. This provides a bit more stability when things get shaky. I talked with Kay about her faith in Christ, and she expressed uncertainty as to whether she had ever really trusted him. I was able to lead Kay to the Lord that night. After several months, Kay and her child remained unharmed, and she continued to express faith that God would see them through.
