Chat Room MinistrySpritiual Preparation Comes FirstGetting Ready to ChatThere are lots of things we must be prepared to deal with in chat room ministry. Folks come to the chat rooms with all kinds of thoughts and ideas and language. There's no rehearsal. We shoot from the hip everytime. So we must be "prayed up" and relying on the Lord continually. Some people come just to haggle and create problems. There are ways to deal with those people, and some of them can be turned around for the Lord if we handle it right. There is also the capability of private chat. One can have two or three channels open with several conversations going on within the channel as well as several private chat windows at the same time. It can be overwhelming at times. I have often gotten swamped with people that had pressing needs. I've had to put people on hold until I can get other conversations wrapped up, going from one counseling session to another. It can be extremely draining. But it is also one of the most rewarding and satisfying things I've ever participated in. If you are called to chat room ministry, be prepared to be misunderstood in real life. Christian friends who are secure in their church pews have no concept of the battles we wage in the chat rooms. We bear burdens for those we are working with that we can't share with most of our real life Christian friends unless they have been there. They cannot comprehend the environment in which our mission field lies. Our mission field is a sometimes a land of Satan worshippers and perverted humanity that would make many of our friends run for their stained glass safety. We must be prepared to accept this without being judgemental. Our responsibility is to work in our mission field. They are responsibile for the field God has called them to. At the same time we must pray and do what we can to lovingly help them get a vision of this great internet field that is white unto harvest. The harvest is ready, the labourers are so few. So our burdens will not only be for those we work with in the chat rooms, but also for those dear to us who have yet to comprehend this mission field that lies before us. If you can find real life Christian friends who will join you in prayer for the chat room ministry, hold tight to them. When the battle rages prayer makes a difference. But most often, our greatest prayer support will come from Christian friends we work with online. One of the greatest treasures of chat room ministry is the fellowship of prayer together with Christians all over the world that we've never met. We should never go into the chat rooms unless we have first spent time alone with God in his Word and in prayer. Otherwise the work will overwhelm us. If God has called you to chat room ministry, get ready. Get ready for heartache as you bear burdens for the multitudes in the world-wide community to which you are called. Get ready for challenge as you enter a land of giants and wolves. Get ready for joy as God uses you to help reap this great harvest before he comes again. |
