The Rest of God : Restoring Your Soul by Restoring Sabbath by Mark Buchanan
Here are some excerpts from this book to be released on January 31, 2006: "Sabbath is both a day and an attitude.... Sabbath imparts the rest of God—actual physical, mental, spiritual rest, but also the rest of God—the things of God's nature and presence we miss in our busyness. One of the largest obstacles to true Sabbath-keeping is leisure.... "waiting for the weekend," where we see work as only an extended interlude between our real lives.... Leisure is Sabbath bereft of the sacred." Used by permission. Adapted from THE REST OF GOD by Mark Buchanan (Thomas Nelson Publishers, Copyright 2006).
Our Leaders for our women's ministries are preparing to study this book together. We will be publishing some of our comments on the website here.

The Excellent Wife : A Biblical Perspective by Martha Peace
The Bible tells us we need to be virtuous and so many things (Proverbs 31:10-31) and this book explains how, even if your spouse is not a Christian or is right now not obeying the Word of God. This opened my eyes to how I was not the wife I could be. By following the Word we are showing the Lord we love Him. It is based on plenty of Scripture and it deals directly with all things which could cause some touchiness. I think you will though have your eyes opened and the Lord will talk to you if you are ready to change.

Experiencing God by Henry T. Blackaby & Claude V. King
I think this is my all time favorite devotional item. I didn't get the dynamic, immediate revolutionizing effect that many do with it. Rather I've found the principles have taken hold on my life in a slow, methodical manner, so that they became part of me. I feel almost sure that at least part of the joy and peace I've come to know in the past few years in spite of great trials are related to the "Experiencing God" principles.

Boundaries in Marriage by Henry Cloud & Dr. John Townsend
This book will help you see what happens when we try to control our mates and what we can do to live in peace within our relationships - specificly taking responsibility for ourselves, helping our mates become responsible themselves, not enabling negative behavior, accepting disappointments and making boundaries that make living and loving possible. I hope the book helps you as much as it has helped me.

Me, Obey Him? by Elizabeth Rice Handford
When I first read this book years ago, I said, "No! This can't be!" But God whispered in my heart, "Oh yes, it can be. It's in my Word. Are you going to follow my plan for you or not?" Thankfully I chose to follow him and he has given me a harvest of peace and joy.

When He Leaves by Kari West and Noelle Quinn
Soon after my husband moved out, I came across this book. It spoke so directly to my needs that I almost wondered if the authors secretly knew me. It offers hope and guidance for Christian women facing the trauma of separation or divorce. The authors, who have chosen not to use their real names, speak candidly of the pain that only we who have been there can understand.

Don't Waste Your Sorrows by Paul E. Billheimer I read this treasured book years ago. I keep it near my computer in a prominent spot. Here's a quote from it: "Nothing that can come to one from any source can injure him unless it causes him to have a wrong attitude. It is one's response that blesses or burns."

The New Freedom of Forgiveness by David Augsburger Mine is the 1970 version, and it is still so valued that I keep it near my desk. Here is just one of the wonderful truths I've underlined: "Forgiving is self-giving with no self-seeking. It gives love where the enemy expects hatred. It gives freedom where the enemy deserves punishement. It gives understanding where the enemy anticipates anger and revenge. Forgiveness refuses to seek its own advantage. It gives back to the person his freedom and his future." What a blessing this book has been in my life!
